By awarding a prize for scientific research, the Academy aims to encourage recently graduated archaeologists and art historians in their research.

Since 1974, the Simone Bergmans Prize has been awarded to nine laureates. The awarded studies were all published as articles in the Revue belge d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de l'Art- Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Oudheidkunde en Kunstgeschiedenis.

In 2013, the Academy established the Prize of the Royal Academy of Archaeology and Art History of Belgium, the regulations of which are largely inspired by those of the Simone Bergmans Prize, but the scope of which has been broadened to all domains of archaeology and art history in Belgium.

This triennial prize was first awarded in 2016 to Mr. E. Lamas-Delgado for his study Miguel Manrique – Michele Fiammingo (ca 1610/12 – 1647) : un peintre flamand entre Anvers, Gênes et Malaga, which was published in the Revue belge d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de l'Art - Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Oudheidkunde en Kunstgeschiedenis - LXXXVII, 2018, p. 187-224.

Mrs. A. De Poorter is the secretary of this prize, the next session of which will start in 2025. You can reach her via info [at] acad.betarget="_blank" rel="noopener external nofollow".
